Resources for Parents

Consultations

A consultation consists of meeting with parents who are interested in better understanding their child’s literacy needs. Consultations are both for parents who want to engage an eager reader and for those who need to pinpoint a child’s academic challenges.

During in person consultation, I will meet with you and your child to provide an interview and informal reading assessment. The consultation will last about an hour to an hour and a half. This service includes a follow-up conversation and specific recommendations on how to best meet the child’s needs.

During econsults I will answer specific questions and provide general recommendations for your child. I will also provide referrals to specialists and resources. These sessions are between 30-45 minutes and aimed to help you create a roadmap for your child.

Workshops

From ABCs to Supercalifragilsticexpialidocious – Examining the stages of literacy development from pre-readers to independent readers, we will discuss the activity occurring within a child’s brain when they learn to read. You will learn what to expect in the various stages and how to help your child.

Creating a Literate Life – How can anyone find time to model a love of reading on a busy schedule? We will discuss how to select the most beneficial tools and materials for your child and your home at each stage of reading so that you both enjoy learning at home.

Strength Builder - How to identify your child’s academic strengths and build on them. Parents and caregivers will answer questions about their child/children to find his or her academic strengths. Then they will find ways to best model learning behaviors for their child to meet their needs.
